Cleaning is something that we all have to do, whether we want to or not. Cleaning is often something that we do with more toxic, chemicals which are of course designed to ensure that every corner of your home is as clean as it can be. However, this doesn’t mean that they are the only choice.
If you prefer the idea of cleaning with something that is a little kinder to the environment and to you and your family too, then you might want to think about eco-friendly cleaning products.
To help inspire you to make the change or to introduce you to some new ways of cleaning, here are some of our very best green cleaning tips for you to try out at home.
Make lemon your friend
One of the greatest natural powerhouses for cleaning is lemon. Lemon not only is antiseptic and antibacterial but it also smells amazing too. The high acid content in a lemon means that it is a great way to cut through a variety of dirt and stains without then damaging whatever it is that you are cleaning. You can maximise the power of lemon by combining it with another all-natural cleaner. Baking soda.
So….baking soda?
Makes perfect sense to move on to baking soda now. Where lemon is acidic, baking soda is alkaline, which makes for the perfect combination. It is also mildly abrasive, which is ideal if you have to use it on a tougher spot. The thing about baking soda is that you can make it as strong or weak as you need to, you simply add more water than required, either forming a paste or a liquid, depending on what it is that you need to clean.
Use vinegar
Finally, we have vinegar, vinegar is a useful natural cleaning product for a variety of things. Vinegar is great if you are trying to clean out a kettle or remove limescale as it is the most acidic of all the things that you can use. However, it doesn’t have quite as pleasant a smell as lemon (which means that you might want to combine the two). Vinegar is also great to pop in a spray bottle and mix with water, using it on windows to leave a streak free shine.
Reuse where you can
One important thing to remember is that you need to ensure that you reuse things as much as you can when you are naturally cleaning your home. Bottles can be refilled as can pots too. This will help to reduce your plastic usage, something which is a huge benefit to the environment. Not only this, but you can also ensure that you use reusable cloths when you are cleaning, ones that can easily be washed in the washing machine.
As you can see, there are plenty of things that you can do to ensure that your house is as clean as possible and that you have a positive impact on the environment. A definite win-win situation.
