We all know the feeling, you have things that you need to get done but you keep finding other things to distract you and remove your focus. It could be a craft project at home, some home improvement work, gardening or perhaps cleaning.
It doesn’t matter what it is that you have to get done, procrastinating is definitely a way to frustrate yourself (and feel that you have wasted your time).
Want to be more productive? Want to actually get the things you need to get done, done? Here are our top tips for making sure that you avoid procrastination and tick things off your to-do list instead.
Break everything down
Your to do list is going to seem much less overwhelming if you break it down into manageable chunks. When your to do list is presented in little bits, it is going to mean that you find it much easier to focus, that you won’t be tempted to let your mind wander and instead you will know exactly what you need to do and feel ready to do it.
For example, it is going to be much easier to face a list that has “mopping, cleaning the sides down and cleaning your oven” as separate tasks are going to be much easier to tackle then “clean the kitchen” which will seem endless.
Remember why you are doing it
There is usually a good reason why you are doing whatever task it is that you need to do. This means that you should remind yourself exactly what the reason is behind it, particularly when you have a distinct lack of focus. If you have an end goal in sight, if you know exactly why that task needs to be done, then you will definitely feel much more focused and ready to take it on!
Give yourself a break
If you find that your focus wanders and that you are easily distracted, then maybe it is your mind telling you to take a break. Rather than fighting the urge to procrastinate, why don’t you think about letting yourself have 5 minutes? Chances are if you give yourself a break and then return to whatever it is that you need to do, then you will be refreshed and ready to take it on!
Just get on with it
Sometimes the only thing that you can do is give yourself a dose of tough-love. There is a reason why that particular task is on your to-do list, whether it is house-work DIY, or actual work that you have to do. So, this means that you need to get on and do it! Believe us, you might be frustrated doing it, but we can promise you afterwards it will all be worth it.
We all have things that we need to do but that we don’t really want to do. Rather than allow yourself to procrastinate, if you get yourself focused then you will soon be ready to tick all those things off your to-do list and actually get around to do the things that you want to do.
