Introduction to Management

Collaborative content

If you’re trying to accomplish anything as a team of people, it’s important to consider what’s important when it comes to making things work. Management is a huge part of any functioning team, as people often need a leader to look to and get everyone organized. The leader will depend on who is either the most favored or the most capable within the group, as managing a team is something that relies on a number of skills.

When it comes to management within a business, you need to make sure that you have what it takes to be an effective leader. Everyone that works with you should be able to respect you as their manager, and it’s up to you to achieve that. Being a solid communicator, listener, and being prepared to actually lead rather than just delegate your work to others is incredibly important. Being a manager isn’t just a position of authority, you need to be a functioning part of the team that can encourage engagement.

Poor management sees a lot of trouble within a business, as a lot of teams will suffer when they dislike their manager. If you’re working for a manager that’s not great at their job or is often rude when communicating with employees, you’re going to see a drop in productivity, and employees may even start to leave. You can keep things professional and reward the hard work of your employees at the same time, and it’s encouraged with any team that aims to be organized and efficient.
